- Tutorial: How to Make a Lightsaber Effect
- The light saber plugin is now installed on your machines, thanks to Mark at the Board Office.
- You can either animate an actual object that resembles a light saber OR you can put the light saber effect around an object or text.
Your choice.

- I'm going to give you the next assignment in order that you can view the necessary video clips and make a decision as to what you would like to attempt to create. Remember, you can always go to YouTube and type in "Adobe After Effects ________ " and what action/process tutorial you would like to find.
- Assignment 6 - Become a Special Effect Expert
- Using Adobe After Effects, create ONE 15 seconds (or more) clip that demonstrates something you had to research in order to complete.
- Examples
- 15 seconds of a light sabre fight (Saber plugin is available on all machines in our lab)
- a scene with blood splatter
- 15 seconds of something on fire (fire is made in After Effects)
- an effect of your choice
- If you can't decide, here is an example from Jordy (of Skillshare fame) demonstrating 5 cool effects in After Effects. Notice the ROTOSCOPE tool!
- You will demonstrate ONE of these cool effects to your classmates, once most have finished this project.
- **You will likely be reusing this method for your final BIG project.
27 March 2024
- Of course, built into After Effects is the ability to repeat an action. Please check out the tutorial, below, if interested.

- Assignment 5 - Your Company Logo
- Using Adobe After Effects, create TWO 5-10 second logo animations (with music!) that represent YOUR
animation/film/audio media company. - You are creating two animations - one to appear at the BEGINNING of your projects

- If searching for how to perform some task in one of the Adobe applications we have, remember to type...
Adobe After Effects 2022... and then what you're looking for. This way, you will receive hits that are relevant to our version.
- ** I would suggest finishing the After Effects Tutorials before attempting the next project. Thanks.
- Now that you are familiar with simple animations of logos in After Effects, we are going to apply this knowledge.
- Assignment 4 - After Effects - Representing Many
- An Animation to Represent a Concept involving Many Things
- Your task is to have one icon, created in Illustrator, by you, representing one or ten or a million of something, and then have many of them fly in to an arrangement in order to represent "how many" of them are related to the concept you're trying to relate to the viewer.
- Try to have images that represent 1, 2, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000... these types of values. If one of your icons represents 3,296, for instance, that can be a hard value to conceptualize and apply when trying to visualize a larger value when a bunch are put together.
- Examples might include...
- Number of Canadians who served in WWI and then reflect how many were killed or injured (casualties).
- A reflection of the Canadian debt before, and now, during the pandemic.
www.debtclock.ca - Number of people who have died from Covid-19 as a reflection of Canada's... or North America's... or the World's population.
- A concept of your own design.
- When you've completed some or all of the animation, you can visit mixkit.co and pick out some appropriate background music.
- The amount of time needed to display your concept will vary, so I'm not saying it has to be 15 or 20 or 45 seconds.
- I see this as something valuable you could actually use to augment a project in high school, or college/university, in the future. This would be similar to something that an animation or graphics person would create for a television program, for instance.
- Your task is to have one icon, created in Illustrator, by you, representing one or ten or a million of something, and then have many of them fly in to an arrangement in order to represent "how many" of them are related to the concept you're trying to relate to the viewer.
- Here are detailed examples...
